It's been another busy week in 2M! This week the children have been busy learning the songs for our Nativity Hosanna Rock. Don't forget the performance date is Thursday 11th December. Some children have been asking me about costumes - we are on the case, and will let you know if the children need to provide anything this week.

On Tuesday the children enjoyed taking part in some indoor athletics - they were very enthusiastic talking about it on Wednesday! In RE lessons we started our new topic 'Preparing'. During this topic the children will think carefully about how we prepare during the period of Advent, and we will link our learning in to our nativity.

Today the children began drafting letters from soldiers with Mrs Stocks. We will be focusing on drafting and improving our writing over the coming months, so you may hear more about this process from the children!

This week while there is no written maths homework, we encourage the children to log on to their Mathletics accounts and have a go at some of the addition and subtraction activities. Children should also be revising their 2, 5 and 10 times tables.

A final note. . .

Take a look at our topics and curriculum for the year ahead on the school website here. We've got lots of exciting learning ahead!

Have a fantastic weekend,

A busy week so far!

Hello and welcome back to the 2M blog! Apologies for some technical issues we have been having, but happily everything has been straightened out so we will be updating with all of our Year 2 news weekly.

We have had a very busy week! We started the week writing leaflets on our topic of Remembrance -this children have really impressed with their thoughtful and sensitive contributions when talking about the reasons we remember those who fought in the First World War. We made poppies and put them on display so we have a special 'Remembrance' area in our classroom.

In our computing lessons we have had a chance to use the new school i-pads! The children were very enthusiastic about using them, and used the 'Hopscotch' app to program avatars.

Tuesday was a very exciting day for us as we had a special visit from author Alice Hemming. Alice shared her fantastic children's stories with us, and the children had an opportunity to plan their own stories - we had some very creative titles! You can take a look at Alice's website here.

Finally today we have been busying ourselves with baking! As part of our RE work on other faiths we have been finding out about Judaism. The children have learnt about how Jewish families celebrate Shabbat, and today we made (and ate!) challah bread. The children loved this activity and were very keen to get baking at home - this is the recipe we used:Egg & Dairy free Challah Bread
